Is change good?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It’s hard to face drastic changes. Imagine Pepsi changing it’s name to Huhatra, or something random like that. Would that work? Would it still be known as Pepsi? New generation people will start calling it Huhatra, but the old-school would still call it pepsi. It’ll take one whole generation before the memory of pepsi can fully be abolished. I don’t really know where I’m going here, but just needed to make a point. Sometimes people prefer old things, or maybe small changes. Check this:

Before

After

Big change, but still the same…

Peace,
Adam

*YAWN* Ooh man, spent the last 3 nights with the Yr 12s, can’t believe their leaving so soon! I’ve always dreaded this moment… their exams start tomoro and in less than 3 weeks, I probably won’t see some of them ever again!

Ok, now onto more happy thoughts. Badminton today was good, played Kristof, this German dude who was on exchange here last year, he decided to spend his holidays here for a week, so he’s back in school (well, kinda). Anywayz, he decided to come play badminton today, as he is leaving tomorow. So I thought, “Hmm, since he’s leaving, I won’t ever get to play badminton with him ever again, why not challenge him?” And so I did. Played the best game I’ve ever played! (Though I lost, hahaha!) It was awesome, score ended up 15-13, 15-7… we didn’t have enough time on the 2nd set, so I gave up on his last point, we had to leave. But it was by far the BEST game I’ve ever played. Wish I could play like that more often.

After dinner, spent the evening with my lil’ rummie  I was so blur most of the time, for some reason my mind just always switched off. I feel so stupid… We went to greet Joanne happy birthday and then went back to Garnett to talk, where the conversation ended up going round in circles. Haha… oh well, today’s a good day. Just need sleep! *yawn*

Oh, check this out.

Where Does Halloween Come From?
It takes some historical digging to come up with why we celebrate Halloween.
by Clark Humphrey

Most of America’s big holidays have more-or-less self-explanatory purposes–to celebrate aspects of the Christian tradition, to honor the coming of the new year or the change of seasons, to remember the legacy of family members or noted historical figures.

But Halloween doesn’t seem to fit in any of those above categories.

It takes some historical digging to come up with why we celebrate the eerie and the spooky on Oct. 31.

One person who’s done such a dig is Rosemary Ellen Guiley. According to Guiley, the origins of Halloween are a lot like the origins of Christmas and Easter as we practice them today–Ancient Roman, Catholic, and European Pagan lore, all blended together.

The name Halloween is Scottish in origin and is short for “All Hallow’s Eve,” the night before “All Hallow’s Day,” or All Saint’s Day. That day was set by Pope Boniface IV to honor the Catholic saints, and also to replace a Roman pagan festival of the dead (which had been held in late February, the end of the old Roman year). Later, Pope Gregory III changed All Saint’s Day to November 1.

By the time Christianity came to the British Isles, local folk had already been celebrating their own festival of the dead on Samhain (November 1, the Celtic new year). According to author Jack Santino in “Halloween and other Festivals of Death and Life” (University of Tennessee Press), “Many traditional beliefs and customs associated with Samhain, most notable that night was the time of the wandering dead, the practice of leaving offerings of food and drink to masked and costumed revelers, and the lighting of bonfires, continued to be practiced on 31 October.”

In other words, the Christian church incorporated local Irish, Scottish, and Welsh pagan traditions into one of its own holy days. Just as the old fertility symbols of the rabbit and the evergreen tree became parts of Easter and Christmas, so have the symbols of the end of the fall harvest season and the coming of darkness become parts of a modern western-world celebration.

Ciaoz,
Adam~

Hmm… weekend’s over which means a new week of school. Weekend was good fun, haven’t had a chilled one for ages. Reminds me of those good ol’ days

Watched 2 movies; Into The Blue and The Transporter 2. Into the blue was good, Jessica Alba is so daaaammmnn fiiinee! Finally get to see a decent movie after all this time. The transporter wasn’t good, storyline was shyt as! Action was pretty cool, but really fake! The only cool thing about this movie was the place we watched it in. We sat in a room with like 15 bean bags, where u can choose to sit on anyone. It was called the ‘Half Pipe’. Weird but cool!

Signing out,
~Adam

[Edit]
Above, when I said that we could sit on anyone, I mean to say that we could sit on anyone of the bean bags… lolz
